Listen to my client’s journey with her renewed Body Confidence
I was coaching the other day with a client named Madge who had had the coolest breakthrough. She watches her three-year-old granddaughter pretty often and she noticed that when her granddaughter is well rested and well fed, she is typically in much better spirits and calmer.
“It hit me,” Madge said, “that our minds, emotions, and bodies are truly connected.”
My client felt motivated to reconnect with her body, in hopes that she could get out of a rut of feeling like she has plateaued at work. Deep down, she felt that her struggle to advance was rooted in low self-esteem, and she was hopeful that body confidence could help her.
Another thing Madge noticed with her granddaughter is that she would sometimes resist the very thing she needed. “I could tell we needed to get out of the house,” she said,” but my granddaughter kept refusing. Finally, I just had to make the call and do what was best. We ended up having a wonderful time on an outing. It was just what we both needed.
In the same way, Madge noticed that her body would nudge her towards movement. “Whether parking farther away at the grocery store to get a few steps in or dancing with my granddaughter, I would notice my body craving movement and then make excuses for
not doing it. I realized that just like my granddaughter needs me to take over and meet her needs, I need to let my body choose what we’re doing.
Now that Madge has given her body a voice, she feels a difference! “I’m not so afraid that I’m quiet in meetings any more. Instead, I feel clear headed and happy.”
Moral of the story: Sometimes, the simplest example, can help us make some pretty helpful changes.
To your freedom,
Coach Stephanie
